Michael is originally from London, now based in Norfolk, and trained in the traditional art of Signwriting in the late 1970’s and early 1980's when the craft was gradually being replaced by digital technology. Michael was one of the few to remain true to his roots and carved a career of over 40 years producing commissions of Glass and Timber handpainted signage for many of the UK’s branded pubs and restaurants, as well as countless small enterprises. The style of art Michael creates is a blend of traditional signwriting , gilding and the electrifying colours of Pop art. Each piece is created with precise detail and a beautiful balance of positive and negative space.These detailed works of art take many hours to complete using techniques from a different era. All original works of art are layers of enamel paint, painted completely freehand onto the reverse of glass panels often using acid etching to create fine textures, then decorated with natural materials such as 23 carat gold leaf, 12 carat White Gold, Silver Leaf, Mother of Pearl, Abalone, and Copper Leaf. The gold leaf is applied to the glass using a Traditional Victorian method of gilding, a gelatine solution or oil size is used to bond the gold to the glass resulting in a mirror like finsh.
